Minute by Minute:
A Look into the Fall 2016 Shoot
September 15, 2016
ON SET WITH GREG MYLER, HEAD DESIGNER AT ST. JOHN
With each collection launch we organize and produce a photo shoot that highlights the seasons inspiration featuring key looks. I had a lot of fun on our Fall shoot documenting the process from behind the scenes.
Sunday, 1:30 PM: I head to LAX for my flight to NYC. We will be shooting on Long Island over the next two days and my plan is to arrive the night before, ready for our early call time on location.
Monday, 6:40 AM: Wake up early to make it to set for call time
Monday, 7:30: I arrive on set. This season’s collection was inspired by military and aristocratic themes, so the Old Westbury Gardens on Long Island, NY was the perfect backdrop. It really had an incredible atmosphere and gave a sense of the great wealth and power that entrepreneurs had at the the turn of the century.
Monday, 8AM: Vogue cover girls, Toni Garnn and Daria Strokous we felt best represented our woman of the season – beautiful, modern, romantic and edgy. Both girls are in their chairs by 8:30am and are prepped for their looks/outfits for the 10am shoot. We will be shooting 38 looks over 2 days, so timing is essential. I review each look with the stylist as each model gets ready.
Monday, 10am: Toni is ready in her first look. as you can see, it takes a village to get each girl photo perfect! The stylist tries a scarf, that we eventually don’t use and hair and makeup do a last check.
Monday, 12pm: 2 hours and 4 shots later, we begin to start environment shots, and begin filming for our collection video.
Monday, 3pm: We decided to shoot some looks at the beautiful beach that was adjacent to the Old Westbury Gardens house. Daria climbed some pretty rugged rocks in 6 inch heels for us to get the perfect shot!
Tuesday, 9am: We decided that the former ball room of the house would be the perfect setting for shooting some of our evening looks. It had incedible expanses of glass and beautiful Corinthian columns.
