Knitwear powerhouse St. John celebrates a half-century-plus with a much hallowed debut at Fashion Island.

Founded in 1962, St. John built its legendary California-based brand by specializing in subtly powerful, innovative knits for women. Recently, as the modern woman has become evermore on the go, St. John is seeking to loosen its structured aesthetic with something more casual and “effortlessly undone,” according to the fashion house’s Britborn SVP of Design, Greg Myler. To masterfully translate this revamp, the brand is trading its Costa Mesa boutique for a new, high-concept flagship at Fashion Island, which was designed by O’Neil Langan Architects, the firm behind a top-tier roster of international boutiques such as Saint Laurent and Versace. “As an O.C. luxury women’s apparel brand with five decades of experience, it’s a natural fit to introduce our newest lifestyle concept store at Fashion Island, which is also celebrating a half-century,” says St. John CEO Bruce Fetter. Indeed, with its elevated yet relaxed shopping experience, Fashion Island already embodies the SoCal lifestyle that St. John hopes to weave into its next-gen collections. “This boutique, inspired by quintessential California living, will feature a light and airy palette and introduce some new elements not seen by us before,” Fetter adds. Debuting this season, the new venue will showcase St. John’s much-anticipated spring collection, where knits will go easy, breezy, chic!
