International Women's Day

Incredible Women Doing Extraordinary Things

Six decades ago, Marie Gray had a vision. With an eye for style and a deep understanding of women’s wants and lifestyles, she launched St. John with one perfect knit dress. Gray sensed women would be drawn to sophisticated, streamlined knits in high quality fabrics with versatility in mind. And they have been ever since.

Today, St. John is proud to recognize and celebrate the women who live life in our designs. We find joy in each generation that makes our clothing and accessories their own, a common thread that connects women around the globe. We’ve seen granddaughters inherit their grandmothers’ tweed jackets and friends pass along evening gowns. This rich network of clients includes women who are breaking barriers, following their dreams, and doing so comfortably and confidently. This is the sisterhood of St. John.

Spotlight on our Extraordinary Women

This year, we’ve had the privilege of spotlighting five extraordinary, unique, wildly talented, inspirational women. You’ve seen them style St. John and wear their favorite pieces everywhere from work to the red carpet.

Entertainment industry innovator, storyteller, mother. Shonda’s life is full and her impact is great. She’s turned to St. John for years to select everyday wear and red carpet looks that make her feel confidently herself. We’re thrilled to team with Shonda to share our message of #OWNYOURPOWER as she shares professional and personal advice with our incredible community.

Karla Welch is a Los Angeles-based stylist and has been declared as one of the "Most Powerful" stylists by both The Hollywood Reporter and The New York Times. Whether she’s dressing A-listers or collaborating with powerful corporate brands, no two days are the same. A versatile wardrobe is key, as Karla pairs St. John staples with her personal collection.

If anyone knows how to seamlessly infuse tradition with a modern touch, it’s Esther Choi. This classically trained chef/TV personality/entrepreneur has tapped into her roots to bring Korean cuisine to the masses with her buzzy New York restaurants. Esther relies on the Foundation Collection pieces to seamlessly transition wherever her days – and nights – may lead.

For Nayomi Van Brunt, self-expression is an art. A dancer since age 9, Nayomi now performs with the L.A. Dance Project. When she’s not in her dance wardrobe, she turns to St. John for a versatile wardrobe of personal pieces that fit her busy lifestyle.

Life is never dull for Swiss-born artist and new mom Blanda Eggenschwiler. Between family time and art, Blanda’s calendar can land her anywhere. Bringing her cool European aesthetic to American classics invites a sophisticated approach to truly timeless style.

Today and every day, we honor the women who support us and present their best selves in our looks. We thank you for being a part of our brand story and look forward to following along as you continue to do great things, wearing the best.
